Design:

A single ray peeking through the drawn curtains greeted the young man this ordinary morning. At least it seemed to be an ordinary to those that occupated the world around the man who laid there in the bed, eyes locked upon the ceiling looming above him. Eyes did not blink though they ached to. Silence was the man's friend as it spoke words only he could hear. He brought his arm up to shield his eyes from the sun's rays that threatened to invade his vision if he laid there any longer. In the end, he knew he could not stay in bed even if he ached to. Anything to make this day pass as quickly as it had come upon him.

Raising up, Jerritt sat upon the side of the bed he shared with his boyfriend. The younger smaller male was already gone for the day. A bug catching assignment or maybe out with his friends. This was good, Jerritt didn't want Gin to see him like this. Eyes red, blood shot as if he had been up all night drinking. He hadn't of course, but had a stranger come upon him at that moment, looking as he did they would surely think otherwise. His hair was a mess, as was the rest of him. The bed looked like some of the canine or feline pokemon in the family had turned it into some kind of playground given how twisted and frumped up the sheets were. The large thick blanket normally used for warmth had been tossed to the wooden floor, disguarded as its weight and heat had been too much for Jerritt to deal with.

Standing up, the man that had finally fullfilled his dream of being a business owner slugged his way into the bathroom. It was as if he was on auto-pilot or trying out as an extra in some zombie horror film. The shower was turned on, a temperature didn't matter as Jerritt went about his usual morning routine. Time slipped by, he couldn't even feel that he had let the water get too hot. His tan skin now sporting a bit of a pinker hue as he climbed out to dry off. His hair left down as he moved from the bathroom to grab a quick bite to eat before he dared to head into work. Only, he didn't change into the clothing he normally wore to the spa, and he didn't really grab any kind of breakfast. Though to some coffee could be made into breakfast, it was not how Jerritt normally functioned. Something was off with him and his pokemon were starting to sense this. He was even seeming to ignore them which was extremely odd for the man that would have gladly given his life to save them or even to save Gin. Yes, it was a good thing that Gin wasn't home at that moment for this was not the Jerritt he had come to know since that fateful day in the park.

The coffee was half drunk before Jerritt turned and headed toward the front door. It was a good thing the shoes were kept near by otherwise the man might have walked out without them he was so lost in his own thoughts. He briefly paused to look at the calender that hung on the wall by the hallway's mirror. He closed his eyes fighting the sudden pain he felt in his chest before he turned away from the fateful reminder of what this day truly was. Jerr took his keys and left the cabin behind, thankfully he was in a mind set that reminded him to lock the front door. He almost locked Zil the Togetic, Navie the Umbreon and Thanatos the Houndoom inside. At least there was a pokemon pet door that lead out to the backyard and they were able to get out. Following behind quickly to locate where Jerritt was going as they along with Quincy, Jerritt's Nidorino who had already been outside foraging that day.

Jerritt didn't see or seem to hear his beloved pokemon as he walked down the path that lead from the cabin into the rest of Ivywood's forest and toward town. Now normally Jerritt would head into town to grab some pasteries from one of the local bakeries for any customers as well as a few of his employees to enjoy. Only on this day, the tall dark man turned and headed toward a place that not many had ever seen Jerritt visit. A place of sadness for many, a place where ghosts and dark pokemon might find home in. His form slipped between the pillars that held up a beautiful designed sign, CEMETARY. It was as if he knew this path by heart in fact. As he moved on deeper within. Heading toward a corner of the land where there had been planted a mix of Lilac and Rose bushes. And there almost in the center of them was a simple slab of stone, a headstone. Plain on the back but on the front it was clear someone had cared deeply for the being who had been buried beneath the marker.

Jerritt stood there for what felt lik ages to him as he looked upon the carved stone. His eyes far from dry as he took in each letter and then the date. Seven years. Seven years, no wait it had been six long lonely years since she had departed from the world. Since he had been awaken by a call in the night. A call informing him that ... that his mother had died. That she had been found dead and the Alolan Meowth that had been her companion had also passed away sometime beside her. That as her son, Jerritt was expected to come for the body and in a sense remove it from the world. He had done all that had needed to be done for her. She had had no will and so the choices had been left to him. And while he could have buried her in their home city or rather land, he had chosen to keep her closer to him than she had even been in life. It might seem silly to think he could reconnect with the woman that had never truly been in his life growing up, but it had brought him some comfort at the time. So now every year on the day that had been the day she had come into the world a fresh soul, Jerritt came to the Cemetery to visit her. To celebrate her birth for it had become harder to visit everyday like he had done that first year after her death. Too painful actually.

Quincy approached his human friend cautiously. Sitting down behind him but close should he be needed. Thanatos and Navie soon joined the Nidorino on the ground, waiting. But it was Zil that hovered near the marker as if some physical representation of an angel. Nevertheless, they were mostly unseen as Jerritt finally spoke. Not to them but to the headstone of his mother's grave.

“Another year. You would have been fifty six this year.” A soft chuckle at that was his answer as he knew she had always hated being reminded just how old she was. “Much has changed since we last talked. Quincy is bigger, finally evolved in fact. Now just got to find that perfect stone so he can become the King he deserves to be. I have a bunch of new pokemon and oh I'm no longer just a hiker. I finally saved up enough and started that spa that specializes in Aromatherapy and yoga for both trainers and pokemon.” He paused as he took a few steps closer and sat down. His back leaning aginst the cool stone as his eyes focused toward the sky. “Also you'll be happy to know I'm no longer alone. I meet a really great guy, his name is Ginger but he goes by Gin. You'd have liked him or at least liked his Scyther, Malhoun. I swear that Scyther couldn't be anymore Irish than if you found potatos in his veins. I know, my jokes are still lame. Took after you in that department remember?” He laughed, though there were tears falling down his cheeks, an arm resting against a knee as the other leg was curled beneath it.

Jerritt tried to think on what next to say, his hand going toward Navie's head as the Fuzzy Umbreon dared to rest it's head upon his thigh. Quincy was near by now as was Thanatos who was standing guard now as little Zil rested atop his head. “You know, Ma. I wish you had gotten to meet Gin. He's a great guy, I am always grateful when I wake up to see him in the morning and when we retire for the evening. Even if he does hate when I spend money especially if I'm spending it on him. He's so cute when he is nothing but 'gibberish' and that hot blood of his causes him to slip into his native tongue. Between us, I sometimes do things to get him like that. Oh not like mad enough to leave me but just enough to bring that little sexy quirk out of him. I... I'm thinking about asking him to marry me if we can make it. I know he's had a rocky past as I have when it comes to relationships. And I know you'd have warned me about moving to fast but... well I really do hope one day to marry him. Temper and all.” And then Jerritt fell quiet.

It was then the heavier tears began as his hands covered his face and all the pain he had been trying to hide came forth once more. His body shook as he leaned forward, his legs curling behind them as he began to rock. His voice muffled by his hands but it was clear if one paused long enough to listen. 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you that day. In those days you needed me. I'm sorry, mother.' He cried and cried until he was once more exhausted and his face wore a brighter red in his eyes, and his nose. He had some how ended up in a curled almost fetal position beside the headstone. His head upon Navie's side as he closed his eyes. Quincy nuzzling his head against Jerritt's neck as Thanatos rested his head on his hip, and little Zil allowed the big man to hold him like some teddy bear. And there Jerritt rested until darkness fell. His phone forgotten back at the cabin, on the table under the mirror and under the Calender.
